Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Take environmental condition measurements
   • Check environmental measuring device for serviceability and confirm settings in accordance with manufacturer instructions
   • Position environmental measuring device to optimise its function and accuracy
   • Collect data and measurements in accordance with organisational procedures
   • Transfer data effectively to enable accurate interpretation using relevant information technology
2. Report data acquired from environmental measuring device
   • Interpret data and record environmental conditions information
   • Identify desired work/rest activity levels and required hydration level in accordance with operational procedures
   • Draft an environmental conditions report for relevant stakeholder including recommendations on work/rest activity levels and required hydration level

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least two separate occasions and include: applying relevant legislation, and organisational policies and procedures interpreting environmental data to draw conclusions operating environmental measuring devices preparing environmental measuring devices in accordance with manufacturer instructions prioritising tasking undertaking measurements that include temperature, humidity and heat stress index.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of: environmental measuring devices which must include one or more of the following: altimeter heat stress monitor humidity meter microwave oven radiation leakage detection device temperature probe health surveillance system impact of the environment on human performance manufacturer specifications for environmental measuring devices relationship between heat/humidity and hydration relevant legislation, and organisational policies and procedures time management strategies to set priorities weather systems and patterns work/rest activity levels/index and required hydration level.
